Judging Ourselves

Are You Your Own Worst Critic?

Psalm 139 is arguably on of the most beautiful psalms. Just listen to these verses from The Passion Translation:

You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking.  It simply amazes me to think about it!  How thoroughly you know me, Lord!  You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place, carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something. You saw who you created me to be before I became me!

Friends, God thinks pretty highly of each of us!  Why do we struggle to think of ourselves in this same way?  I find this particularly true in a yoga class, where I often hear things like, ‘I’m not flexible enough, I don’t look like you do in that pose, I just can’t be still, I can’t balance, I can’t touch my toes’. Sweet friends, I truly hope that you will find Fully Alive Yoga to be a place where you can show up (yes, even virtually) just as you are and not as you think you should be, in the body you have been given and not in the body you think you need to have.  Show up in your own glorious skin, created to be uniquely you!  And you know what?  When you honor and listen to your own body, you five others permission to do the same.
